Notre Dame Football 2021: 25 Most Impactful Players, No. 10-6

7. Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa , Defensive Line

  • Best Ranking: 5
  • Worst Ranking: 13

Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa was a three-star prospect from Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Notre Dame was lucky to earn his commitment when he was coming out of high school. The Irish staff did not extend him an offer until January of his senior year.

Tagovailoa-Amosa took an official visit to South Bend a few weeks later and committed to Notre Dame in February. That turned out to be a huge recruiting win for the Irish.

Notre Dame’s defensive line depth chart was relatively thin heading into the 2017 season. That gave Tagovailoa-Amosa an opportunity to earn playing time as a true freshman. He played in 13 games that season and recorded 13 total tackles.

Tagovailoa-Amosa’s sophomore season was cut short due to injury, but he bounced back in a big way in 2019. He started 12 games and recorded 22 tackles, six quarterback hurries, a half-sack, a pass break-up, and a fumble recovery that he returned 48 yards.

As a senior last season, Tagovailoa-Amosa played in eleven games and earned nine starts. He finished the year with 17 tackles, two quarterback hurries, two and a half sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

Tagovailoa-Amosa has progressed from a late addition in the 2017 recruiting class to one of the most reliable players on Notre Dame’s defense. This summer, he was named as one of the team captains for the 2021 season.
