Notre Dame Football 2021: 25 Most Impactful Players, No. 5-1

5. Jarrett Patterson (Offensive Line)

  • Best Ranking: 2
  • Worst Ranking: 10

Jarrett Patterson was a four-star prospect from Laguna Hills, California, and was the highest-graded offensive line prospect in Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class.

He did not see much action during his true freshman season, but he was able to earn a spot in the starting lineup the following season. Patterson started at center for all of Notre Dame’s 13 games in 2019, did not allow a sack all season, and was ranked among the top 20 centers in all of college football (according to Pro Football Focus).

After an impressive sophomore season, Patterson began to earn some national recognition. In the summer of 2020, He was named to the preseason watch lists for both the Rimington Trophy and the Outland Trophy. Patterson started the first eight games of last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury against Boston College.

Patterson is the only returning starter on Notre Dame’s offensive line this season. After some speculation that he might make the transition to tackle or guard this off-season, we recently learned that he will in fact be staying at center.

With four new offensive linemen playing alongside him, Patterson will be shouldering the responsibility of helping the unit to gel together. Despite the turnover on the depth chart, the Irish offensive line has no shortage of talent.
