10 Things that will define the 2021 Notre Dame football season

2. Jack Coan’s Transition to Notre Dame

Jack Coan was named the new starter at Notre Dame during the middle of summer camp. This is what most people expected, of course. The graduate transfer from Wisconsin came in to bridge the gap between Ian Book and prospect Tyler Buchner while the latter develops.

However, he doesn’t come without a couple of questions, and how he transitions to Notre Dame is going to directly impact Notre Dame’s offensive success in 2021.

The first is going to revolve around how confident and healthy Coan is coming off a fairly major injury that cost him his starting job at Wisconsin. From there, he needs to figure out the new offense and build chemistry between himself and all of the other players on Notre Dame’s offense.

If he can do these things well, then there is a good chance that he’ll fit nicely into the Notre Dame offense and they thrive. If not, there is going to be a rocky start to the season on offense without that consistency that Ian Book brought to the quarterback position.

Either way, how Coan makes that transition from Wisconsin to Notre Dame is going to be vital to their season.
