Notre Dame football: Virginia will be no match for the 2021 Irish
Bottom Line on the Cavaliers
Virginia, for better or worse, is who they always are. They’re a developmental team that needs to take the time to coach up players in their system from the time they’re freshmen. There are going to be things they do well and positions of strength, but there are gaps as well.
It’s a team that is as decidedly average as anyone in the ACC, which is a decidedly average conference, to begin with. An exciting quarterback in Brennan Armstrong could help them turn games into shootouts, but they shouldn’t be able to compete with the top teams in college football either.
Too Early Prediction
Virginia’s defense might be designed to stop the run, but they don’t have the athletes across the board to compete with Notre Dame. It should be a big game for Notre Dame’s veteran wide receivers to pick on a weak secondary, and as long as the defense contains Brennan Armstrong the Cavaliers won’t be able to turn this into a shootout.
