Notre Dame football: 5 Irish who won’t be underrated for long

Blake Fisher, Offensive Tackle

You have undoubtedly heard of Blake Fisher. The true freshman is going to start at left tackle for Notre Dame. With this has come some reasonable concern. The game is so much faster at the next level that you may not be able to adjust quickly enough.

That’s before you consider that a senior defensive lineman is a grown man with four or five years in the weight room, while an 18-year-old freshman is really a kid who doesn’t have the same physical strength as a lot of the players across from them.

Concerns are warranted.

However, these concerns have turned people into expecting Fisher to struggle or even fail. That’s not fair to a player who has come in and earned his job over more experienced and older players who had every opportunity in the world to win this job for themselves. He’s more than the best option right now. He’s potentially the best option Notre Dame has had for years at left tackle.

A former 5 star according to Rivals, Fisher is 6-foot-6 and 335lb tackle is going to be an incredible player. This is Mr. Football Indiana for offensive linemen and a first-team All-Indiana selection. At a point, you have to trust that Brian Kelly needs to put together an offensive line. That much is clear.
