Notre Dame football: 5 bold predictions for the Florida State game
5. Isaiah Foskey Will Have More Than 3 Tackles for Loss
As Florida State has fallen from grace in college football, it has done so on the back of increasingly bad offensive line play. It’s one of the most important things for Florida State head coach Mike Norvell to fix. Jimbo Fisher let the standard slip. Willie Taggart failed to fix it. Now, the Seminoles need to give Norvell time.
Going up against Notre Dame’s front seven isn’t the place to fix those problems. It’s the place to try and survive as best you can, potentially using draws, screens, and misdirection to cover up your weaknesses. As for Notre Dame, they’ve positioned Isaiah Foskey to be the most important pass rusher on the team this season.
He should get the party started right in Tallahassee, with more than three tackles for loss against Florida State.
This could be as simple as Foskey is great and Florida State’s offensive line is bad. Their running game is mediocre. The truth is that asking a single player to grab three tackles for loss, let alone more than that, is a major task. He only had five tackles for loss all of last season. This is about the position he is put in to succeed by new defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman and his development as a player more so than it is about how bad Florida State is on the offensive line.
