Notre Dame football: 5 bold predictions for the Florida State game

3. Jack Coan Throws for 300 Yards

One thing you can expect is for Jack Coan to have time to throw. Florida State’s defensive line is desperately searching for a pass rush. Meanwhile, the Seminoles secondary is losing its best player from last season, Asante Samuel Jr.

This is going to open up the door for Jack Coan to have a massive day, throwing for 300 yards.

Think about who Coan is as a quarterback. He’s a pocket passer who is looking to throw downfield. Without a pass rush, this is going to be relatively easy to do. When you consider all of the experience that Coan brings to the table, it should be relatively easy for him to process a secondary that has turnover at the cornerback position to deal with as well.

The resistance to him isn’t going to be strong.

Then, you need to look at Coan and Notre Dame’s offensive weapons. It’s no secret that the wide receivers have underperformed, especially in 2020. Still, there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful going into 2021. Braden Lenzy has the ability and speed to be a great wide receiver. Kevin Austin Jr. is also returning after two seasons away. Meanwhile, Michael Mayer is more experienced and stronger than ever before. This is a group with more potential than they’ve shown in recent years.

This game may stay close for a while, too, which will only mean the Irish need to throw more than expected. So, bank on a big passing day.
