Notre Dame football: 5 bold predictions for the Florida State game

1. Notre Dame is Trailing at the Half

By now, you’ve heard the trendy pick to take Florida State to scare Notre Dame. You may have written it off too. After all, Florida State hasn’t had a good team in years now. Notre Dame has blown out Florida State in their last two meetings, and the Irish are coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff.

Even with the turnover on Notre Dame, they should still win.

Now, all of that is true. It just doesn’t tell the entire story and the truth is that Florida State is getting much better as a team and Mike Norvell is going to get this team to a much better, more consistent, and explosive place on offense. It also assumes that there won’t be any growing pains for this new Notre Dame roster, particularly on offense.

But, this is game one. This is going to be raw. In other words, expect rust. Expect a slow start.

This is a game at Florida State. You can expect an improved opponent, and you can bank on a slow start on offense. That adds up to a lot of first-half trouble and with that trouble, I’d expect to be trailing at halftime. It won’t be a massive deficit, but don’t be surprised if it is there.

Notre Dame will still win the game, but it will take a full 60 minutes. Think of a start similar to the Louisville game in 2019.
