Florida State Seminoles vs. Notre Dame Football: 3 things to watch

No. 1: How the Irish defense looks under Marcus Freeman

Lastly, we turn our attention to the defensive side of the ball, where Marcus Freeman is taking over for Clark Lea as the team’s defensive coordinator. Lea left the Irish to take the head coaching job at his alma mater, Vanderbilt, and since stepping in for him, Freeman has been even better than expected in terms of his coaching, and his recruiting.

Now, he gets to unleash his defense on another program, and he certainly has some veteran talent that could make this one of the better units in the country. There are dominant players upfront, a veteran cast at linebacker, and the secondary boasts one of the best all-around players in the entire country in Kyle Hamilton.

Freeman was able to work wonders during his time at Cincinnati, and with better talent in South Bend, he is going to take this defense and his career to new heights. Florida State has some offensive weapons to worry about, but when all is said and done, it will be interesting to watch what kind of gameplan Freeman dials up in his first game on the sidelines for the Irish.
