Notre Dame football: 3 keys to victory against Florida State in Week 1

Utilize the run to open up Coan in the passing game

As we stated earlier, the Irish have a dynamic running back duo in Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree, two guys who are going to have their own big moments this fall. On Sunday, the Irish need to get them going early on against this Seminoles defense, one that could struggle up front against the run, as well as getting after Jack Coan.

For Coan, he has been down this road before, as he had an elite running back at Wisconsin in Johnathan Taylor, who rushed for over 2,000 yards for the Badgers. If Notre Dame can establish the run, it will allow Coan to get back into the pocket and let it rip, utilizing some of his key weapons in the passing game like tight end Michael Mayer, and wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr., Braden Lenzy, and Avery Davis.

Based on talent, the Irish should be able to take care of the Seminoles, even on the road, but they will have to play a tight game against a talented FSU ballclub. Florida State will be looking to show that they have turned the fortunes of the program around, but if the Irish can accomplish these three things, they should be in good shape, getting out to a 1-0 start in 2021.
