Notre Dame football: 5 reasons the Irish will beat Florida State

Florida State’s defense is iffy at best

Last season, the Florida State defense was atrocious, giving up over 35 points per game, including 42 against the Notre Dame football team. In 2021, they have done a nice job adding pieces via the transfer portal, and do have some solid players on all three levels, but the Notre Dame offense should have no problem moving the ball.

Linebacker Amari Gainer is a tackling machine, and Jermaine Johnson is outstanding at coming off the edge, but the Irish offensive line should be able to hand them. The Irish have arguably the best two-headed monster at running back in college football, and they are going to have more than a few opportunities to break one on Sunday night.

In addition, the Seminoles have major question marks in the secondary, especially with Asante Samuel Jr. gone, so Jack Coan should be able to attack them on the outside. Then there is Michael Mayer, who is going to be a problem for this Irish offense, which should be able to get it going early and continue to stack points throughout.
