Milton cleared to play again
In total, Milton would require 17 surgeries to repair his right knee. He also dealt with infections in his knee, which threatened his leg again. While in the hospital, Milton lost 30lbs. Two years after his injury, a time he spent rehabbing and acting as an extra quarterbacks coach at UCF, Milton had been cleared to play again and was running scout team for UCF.
Rumors swirled he might play at USF-the same field he got injured on two years later.
He didn’t. KZ said he wasn’t 100% yet. He didn’t want to push. By this time, UCF had found its next great quarterback, Dillon Gabriel. More than just a Hawaiian, like Milton, DG took over as starting quarterback to replace KZ in high school.
Gabriel broke Tua Tagovailoa’s state passing records. His friend got the UCF coaches to recruit him, and then his friend admitted that this was DG’s team now. It was time for McKenzie Milton to move on if he wanted to play his final year of eligibility. In the end, it would be Florida State and Mike Norvell, Memphis’ coach who lost to KZ at UCF three times, who gave him that shot.
