Notre Dame Football vs. Toledo: 3 Irish players to watch in Week 2

Kyren Williams, Running Back

Going into the matchup against Florida State, many felt that quarterback Jack Coan was a big question mark, but also that Kyren Williams would help get him acclimated to being the starting quarterback for the Irish. However, Coan showed that he is certainly the right guy for the job, while Williams struggled a bit against the Seminoles, finishing with only 42 yards on 18 carries, good for an average under three yards per carry.

Against Toledo, Williams must flip the narrative, as the Rockets defense is not as good as Florida State’s was, and he is one of the best running backs in the country. I would expect a monster game from Williams against Toledo, as I believe that Tommy Rees is going to want to get him going early in this one.

The Irish are likely going to be able to do what they want against this Toledo defense, but it all has to start with establishing the run game. Last season, Williams had a few stinkers but followed them up with big efforts the next week, which I believe will be the case against the Rockets on Saturday afternoon.
