Notre Dame football: 3 mistakes to avoid against Toledo in Week 2

Taking their foot off the gas

In all seriousness, the Notre Dame football team should be able to beat the Rockets on Saturday and beat them soundly. The Irish may have been bitten by the injury bug a bit in Week 1, losing Blake Fisher for eight weeks, and Paul Moala for the season, but they still have more talent than this Rockets team does, as well as more depth.

If the Irish get out to a fast start against the Rockets, the one thing they have to avoid is taking their foot off the gas, allowing the Rockets to get back into the game. Last weekend, Notre Dame had an 18-point lead against the Florida State Seminoles but allowed them back in the game, and nearly lost their season opener on the road.

While Toledo does not have the kind of playmakers that Florida State does, they do have some quality players, as well as some veteran guys who take a lot of pride in being a Rocket. If Notre Dame gets out to an early lead, they need to pummel Toledo into submission, leaving no doubt that they will not escape Notre Dame Stadium with a victory.
