The Notre Dame football team will welcome the Toledo Rockets to Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, and some true freshmen could see extended time.

When the Toledo Rockets invade Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, they will have a chance to pull off a huge upset. This year’s Notre Dame football team goes into this game ranked at No. 8 in the country, after an exciting overtime victory against Florida State last Sunday night.

As huge favorites, the Irish could get out to an early lead, which would mean some extended playing time for some of their true freshmen. We take a look at three players that could impact here.

Rocco Spindler, Offensive Guard

After seeing Blake Fisher go down due to injury in the first game, all eyes will point towards Rocco Spindler, their second-biggest offensive line recruit for this year’s class. Spindler had been rumored to be in line for a starting job this offseason, but with Jarrett Patterson moving back to center, and Cain Madden coming in, he has to wait his turn.

On Saturday, if the Irish do well, they may want to get that first offensive line out of there, hoping to avoid another injury. Spindler is currently listed as a second-team offensive guard, and if he does get an opportunity, it will be a glimpse of things to come from a guy who should be an anchor on this offensive line for years to come.
