Notre Dame Football vs. Purdue: 4 bold predictions in Week 3
Notre Dame Football vs. Purdue: 4 bold predictions in Week 3
Purdue Throws for Three Plays More Than Sixty Yards
There are a lot of things wrong with Purdue football right now, but the passing game isn’t one of them. Their quarterback, Jack Plummer, has thrown for 558 yards, six TDs, and 0 INTs through two games. That’s on pace for 3,348 yards, 36 TDs, and, well, 0 INTs.
For reference, that would be the fifth-best season in Notre Dame history for yards and second best for passing touchdowns. Purdue also has Davis Bell, arguably the best receiver in the country not named Chris Olave.
Then, consider what Notre Dame has mustered on defense. The secondary has been feast or famine, already allowing four plays of more than sixty yards. In man coverage, which is often the call, Notre Dame’s corners just can’t consistently compete. They’re not fast enough.
Purdue will have mismatches in the secondary to exploit, and they’re going to try to exploit them from a strategic point of view. Their head coach, Jeff Brohm, isn’t perfect but he’s an excellent schemer in the passing game. Expect a lot of huge plays given the style of defense Notre Dame has been playing.
