Get Michael Mayer involved early

Against Purdue, the Notre Dame football team failed to get Michael Mayer involved in the passing game, as he had one of his more unproductive games in terms of the stat sheet. Sure, he did his thing in the blocking game, and cause Purdue to key on him, making opportunities for other players, but one reception for five yards is just not going to cut it against the Badgers defense in Week 4.

Mayer has the talent to be one of the best tight ends to ever come through this program, and he can make a real statement on Saturday in front of the College Gameday crowd. This is the Game of the Week in college football, and all eyes are going to be on Jack Coan, the former Wisconsin quarterback, so he needs to focus in and attack with his No. 1 target in Mayer.

While the Irish may be underdogs in this game, this is certainly a winnable game, and one that could spring them back into CFP contention. It has been a crazy three-game stretch to start the season, but Wisconsin in a good team, and a win against them could change the narrative surrounding the 2021 Irish.
