Jack Coan should be done as the starter

Jack Coan got off to a fast start in his Notre Dame career, breaking the school’s passing record for yardage in a season opener. However, since then, he has been very hot and cold, and sometimes, the offense is downright stagnant with him under center.

He won the job coming out of the summer, there is no doubt there, but as a graduate transfer, and with some young guns behind him, it is time for the Irish to move off of him as the starter. Drew Pyne is only a redshirt sophomore, and Tyler Buchner is a true freshman, and both should be in consideration for being the starting quarterback of the future for the Irish.

Going into next year, the program has to know what they have in both Pyne and Buchner, especially with the uber-talented Steve Angelli coming in from Bergen Catholic, New Jersey. Angelli has led the Crusaders to a top-10 ranking in the country in his final season of high school, and you have to think he will be in the mix to start right away once he gets to campus.

For Coan, the time has come for him to move into more of a leadership role, helping the young players along.
