Notre Dame football: What’s left to accomplish in the 2021 season?

See what the team has in both Pyne and Buchner

Jack Coan earned the starting quarterback job out of camp, and rightfully so, as he gave the Irish the best chance to win in 2021. However, after a strong start to the season, he has been very hot and cold, leading to head coach Brian Kelly playing an assortment of signal-callers, including Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner.

A true freshman, Buchner has mostly been used to run the ball, as the Irish have not allowed him to let it rip downfield in his time on the field. For Pyne, he has been given a chance to take shots deep, and he has done a nice job, possibly earning the starting job as we go through the second half of the season.

Coan is a graduate transfer, so he is done with the team after this season, and as we finish out 2021, the program needs to know what they have in both Pyne and Buchner. Notre Dame football also has talent coming in, getting a commitment from NJ star quarterback Steve Angelli, so he will be in the mix for the starting job in 2022 as well.

The next seven games will tell a lot as to what the depth chart could look like next Spring.
