Defensive Backs

When it comes to the defensive backfield, the thought going into this game was that they would be responsible for either winning or losing this one for the Irish. Overall, the defensive backs played very well against the high-powered offense of Cincinnati, minus a few big plays that were bound to happen they kept Ridder to only completing 59% of his passes.

They played a vital role in keeping only 23 points on the board after the turnovers from the offense. Kyle Hamilton didn’t have a huge impact as we would expect, and he got beat on a ball that was thrown pretty poorly.

He could have played that a little better and even had an interception, but he isn’t perfect, nor should he be. Cam Hart almost had another interception early on in the second quarter that would have been huge but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to come down with it.

Overall the defensive backs did pretty well trying to give Ridder some issues, but they couldn’t limit the big plays, which were their downfall. As a unit, they have to limit big plays because the offense just hasn’t seemed to click for the Irish.

This is a group that can shut down receiving corps and has shown their ability to do so however they just got beat one too many times this week.
