The Notre Dame football team is back to playing musical quarterbacks and has gotten a jolt from true freshman Tyler Buchner.

Going into their matchup against Virginia Tech, the Notre Dame football team and their staff had said they would be going with one quarterback, and sticking with them. Failing to say who it was all week long, it was once again veteran Jack Coan who got the start against the Hokies, and once again, the offense sputtered.

That led to Brian Kelly once again going with another quarterback, this time inserting true freshman Tyler Buchner into the game in the middle of the second quarter. It did not take Buchner long to make an impact, leading the Irish on their first touchdown drive of the game, getting the job done with his arm, and his feet.

In the drive, Buchner completed a long pass to Kevin Austin to get the Irish within the five-yard line, before plunging into the end zone on a quarterback power. It was a drive that showcased what this kid could be for the Irish down the road, and now we wait to see if he finishes out the game.

Notre Dame football pulls within three

With the touchdown run by Buchner, the Irish are finally on the board and will have a chance to take the lead before the half. Of course, Notre Dame football is looking to go into the bye week on a high, and now that the team has made a move at quarterback, the questions will continue as to who will be the guy under center for this team moving forward.

For now, the focus is on the Hokies, and whether or not the Irish can go into Lane Stadium and come away with the victory. Buchner has breathed life into this Irish offense, and now we get to see whether or not he can get the job done.
