Notre Dame football at Virginia Tech: 3 things we learned
RB group in good hands after Kyren Williams
The Notre Dame football team has one of the better do-everythig running backs in the country in Kyren Williams, who can get the job done on the ground, and through their air. Listed as a top-5 running back prospect for the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams is likely playing his last season with the Irish and showed incredible leadership and grit on Saturday night.
With Williams likely leaving, for most programs, that would cause a huge void at the running back spot, but not for the Irish. While they will miss Williams, the group is loaded behind him, including a true sophomore in Chris Tyree, and some excellent true freshmen in Logan Diggs and Audric Estime.
With Tyree out of the game, the Irish turned to the true freshman in Diggs to shoulder some of the load, and he responded in a big way. Diggs showed that he not only could get the tough yardage racking up close to five yards per carry, but he also hauled in a 15-yard reception. If his short sample is any indication, the Irish could be in good hands with him moving forward.
