Notre Dame football at Virginia Tech: 3 things we learned

The Irish are not dead yet

On Saturday, the college football landscape was once again turned on its head, as the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide lost to Texas A&M, and No. 4 Penn State lost to No. 5 Iowa. That will shuffle up the College Football Playoff discussion a bit, and eventually, if Alabama does lose in the SEC title game, a two-loss team likely won’t make the playoff.

Also, across the next few weeks, we should see more key matchups, as there continues to be no indication that there are four legitimate CFP favorites as we enter Week 7 of the college football slate. The Notre Dame football team may have been left for dead after the loss to Cincinnati, but it is way too early to count them out.

A lot can happen between now and when the College Football Playoff committee meets to name their four teams, so the Irish need to just put their heads down and continue to stack wins. Notre Dame football went down to the wire once again in Week 6, but a win is a win, and there should be a bunch more of them on their schedule this season.
