Notre Dame football studs and duds: Kyren Williams returns to form vs VT

3rd Stud: Kyren Williams

It’s been a long year for Kyren Williams. He was expected to come in and thrive this year, after coming onto the scene last season. He’s struggled, though, against an offensive line that has made things difficult.

Williams managed to have a monster of a game against Virginia Tech, bringing attitude to his runs. He ran through several broken tackles on the way into the endzone on his second touchdown, one of which was a receiving touchdown. He turned towards the crowd and asked them to quiet down after both scores.

This is much more like the Williams that we expected to see this season, and if he can get going then the Irish are in good shape going forward.

3rd Dud: Kyle Hamilton

I know. I know. I know. Kyle Hamilton is an All-American who had several highlight real hits in this game. He largely did his job, and it’s way too harsh to call him a dud this week. Well, it was a tough week to find clear cut duds, so here we are.

Late in this game, Notre Dame needed Hamilton to come up with a big play defensively, and that big play never came. He didn’t force any turnovers and took a bad roughing the passer call that set up Virginia Tech. It’s tough to say he played poorly, but we’ve just come to expect more.
