Notre Dame football vs. Virginia Tech: Offensive Grades in Week 6

Running Backs

There have been a lot of challenges for the Irish in the running game this season. That’s been a pretty big disappointment, as most people figured that Notre Dame would be a power-running team this year. The offensive line hasn’t complied. The running backs haven’t overcome those challenges, even though you still get the sense that they’re perfectly capable.

This was a strong performance from the running backs, and Kyren Williams in particular. Williams found the endzone twice, shushing the crowd both times as he celebrated his scores. One of those scores, in particular, Williams willed himself into the endzone like Beastmode.

Chris Tyree, the typical number two option in the backfield seemed to be banged up, and because of that Logan Diggs got several touches out of the backfield. Diggs is a freshman running back, and he looked solid given his lack of experience at the moment. The future does, at least, seem bright at running back.
