Notre Dame football vs. Virginia Tech: Offensive Grades in Week 6

Offensive Line

It’s been pretty easy to pile on the Notre Dame offensive line. They haven’t gotten much if any push in the running game and they’re leaving the quarterbacks out to dry against the pass rush. There have, through the Virginia Tech game, been four different starters at the left tackle slot, including two true freshmen. So, it was nice to see the unit bounce back and start to show improvement.

As a group, they only allowed two sacks on the game. Considering that was largely due to Jack Coan’s lack of pocket presence and running into pressure himself, this group actually had a great day in pass protection. They also started opening up holes in the running game, and Williams ran better than he has in a long time behind them.

It’s easy to point the finger at and blame the offensive line. You just have to give them credit where it’s due too. They played well, and hopefully, they can build on that performance going forward.
