Notre Dame football vs. USC Trojans: 3 Irish players to watch in Week 8

Joe Alt

Finally, we turn to the offensive side of the ball, where the Irish will be looking to build upon a better effort from their offensive line against Virginia Tech. In that game, Notre Dame turned to a former high school tight end in Joe Alt to man the left tackle spot, a position on this team that has been a revolving door this season.

Alt had some issues early on against the Hokies, but he responded in a big way, and his effort helped the Irish come all the way to beat them inside Lane Stadium. He will draw a tough assignment on Saturday night, as USC outside linebacker Drake Jackson can certainly bring the pressure, and keeping Jack Coan upright will be paramount.

We have seen the Irish struggle to get it going on the offensive side of the ball due to shoddy play along the offensive line, something that they hopefully have figured out going into the final six games of the season. They are the better team, but if the Trojans get push upfront, it is going to be very hard for the Irish to execute their offensive game plan.
