Running Backs

Kyren Williams has officially come around and he’s becoming the workhorse that he was expected to be before the season began. That means that he’s both a safety valve in the passing game, as well as a top blitz pickup option for the Irish offense.

In the running game, Williams has amazing patience when he runs and kicks it outside very well. He is a little undersized, which sometimes keeps him from going north and south as much as he should, but he’s still a very strong and well-balanced rusher. His stiff arm and cut are elite, and once Williams chooses to go he’s one of the most explosive players in all of college football.

Behind Williams has been Logan Diggs. Diggs is a freshman who is flashing a ton of potential in the absence of Chris Tyree, who is still dealing with turf toe. Diggs runs like Williams in several ways. He’s patient, knows when to go outside, and is explosive once he hits the hole. Against Navy, he averaged 7.4 yards per carry.

This group is elite, and there is so much depth at this unit that an injury to someone like Tyree won’t even be a major issue.
