Notre Dame basketball: Men’s preview for the 2021-22 college season

Projected starters

No big surprises when looking at who will dot the starting lineup for head coach Mike Brey to open the season, as it is a lot of the same faces from last year. While Juwan Durham is gone, four starters return from last year’s team, including a handful that have played in over 90 games for Brey during their Notre Dame basketball careers.

Here is what the starting lineup will likely be for the matchup against CSU Northridge

  • PG: Prentiss Hubb
  • SG: Cormac Ryan
  • SF: Dane Goodwin
  • PF: Nate Laszewski
  • C: Paul Atkinson

Looking at this projected starting lineup, it is clear that the Irish have plenty of players who can score the basketball. The big difference is going to be how strong the Irish will be down low, as Laszewski and Atkinson will make for a terrorizing one-two punch for anyone trying to score down the lane.

Overall, this is one of the deeper teams we have seen in years, and the guys coming off the bench should give Brey quality minutes as well. If Brey cannot get to the tournament with a team that has been playing together for this many years, you have to wonder what direction the program is going in moving forward.
