Notre Dame football: Keys to victory against Georgia Tech in Week 12
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football team heads home for the final time to take on Georgia Tech. Here are three keys to victory for the Irish.
The Notre Dame football team is one of the hottest teams in the country right now and looks nothing like the team that was struggling to stack wins early in the season. The run game is back, led by Kyren Williams and Logan Diggs, and Jack Coan is playing some efficient football down the stretch.
After a strong road win against Virginia in Week 11, the Irish head back to Notre Dame Stadium, where they will face the lowly Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech has seen their season go off the rails in recent weeks, making them prime for what could be a blowout for the Irish in this one.
Here, we look at three keys to victory against Georgia Tech.
Notre Dame football: Keys to victory against Georgia Tech in Week 12
Run the football
The Irish need to stick to the game plan against Georgia Tech, and that means a steady dose of Kyren Williams early and often in this one. Williams has been running all over teams as of late and has taken advantage of some key changes up front along the offensive line.
The Yellow Jackets are atrocious against the pass, but that does not mean the Irish should abandon the run game. In fact, they should pound the ball with Williams to set up the passing game on Saturday.
Put Georgia Tech away early
One thing the Irish cannot afford to do in this game is start slow, as it has come back to haunt them all season long. This past weekend, they started strong against the Virginia Cavaliers, and by halftime, it was clear who the winner would be in that matchup.
Georgia Tech goes into this game on a four-game losing streak, and making sure they know No. 5 is coming early on in this one will prove crucial.
Stop Jahmyr Gibbs
If there is one player on this Georgia Tech team that needs to be stopped, it is freshman Jahmyr Gibbs, the team’s leading rusher and receiver this season. This is a special talent, but one that Marcus Freeman should be able to dial up a solid game plan against, and minimize the damage.
In the end, the Irish should have no problems with the Yellow Jackets, who are struggling in a big way to close their season. If Notre Dame does what it has the last the last few weekends, they should have no problem capping off their home schedule with a large victory against Georgia Tech.
