Notre Dame football vs. Georgia Tech: Offensive Grades for 2021 Week 12
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Much like the running backs, everyone got involved in the receiving game. Eleven different Notre Dame players caught passes, but no one had more than four receptions individually. It was Kyren Williams who had those four catches. Among the wide receivers and tight ends, Michael Mayer led the way with three catches.
Meanwhile, Kevin Austin’s 89 yards on two catches were good for the best day in terms of yardage. It would be Mayer and running back Logan Diggs who caught Coan’s two touchdown throws.
Mayer, with two games remaining at Stanford and the eventual bowl game, has also positioned himself to become the tight end in Notre Dame history with the most single-season catches. That will put him ahead of names like Kyle Rudolph, Tyler Eifert, and Ken MacAfee.
Another tight end who had a highlight-reel play was George Takacs. With the often-overlooked blocking tight end, Takacs nearly reached the endzone on a heads-up play slip out and set up a pop pass. Brian Kelly challenged the play to try and get him a touchdown but to no avail. Even without the score, it was a great moment.
