Jack Coan’s leadership

Ian Book led this Notre Dame football program to a ton of wins, becoming the all-time winningest signal-caller in Notre Dame history. When he left for the NFL after last season, it left a giant hole at the most important position in sports, and one that would need to be filled by either an inexperienced player or a graduate transfer from Wisconsin.

In the end, the experienced player won the job, as Jack Coan beat out the likes of Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne. Entrenched as the starter, Coan had his moments early on, including a record-breaking opener against the Seminoles, but he also struggled a bit behind a shoddy offensive line.

However, Coan has displayed incredible leadership for this team all season long, something that was apparent as soon as he stepped on campus. The Irish should be thankful that Coan decided to transfer to South Bend because he has not only been outstanding on the field but has been a true leader off of it.
