Notre Dame football dominates Stanford: Rapid Reactions in Week 13

First Half

Here are some rapid reactions from the first half.

Bo Bauer needs to be smarter

Late in the first half, Bo Bauer was called for a late hit and targeting, a play that resulted in him being disqualified for the rest of the game. Bauer cannot afford to do things like that, and if he had done it in the second half, he would be unavailable for the first half of the College Football Playoff, or bowl game.

Bauer is one of the leaders on this defense, and that was a play that I am sure he wishes he had back. The Irish can win without him against Stanford, but they would be at a serious disadvantage if this penalty led to sitting out half of the next game.

Irish have some elite deep threats

It is very refreshing to watch this Notre Dame offense, as they can beat you on the ground, and also through the air. Coan lit up Stanford in the first half, and it was how he did it, hitting his deep threats in guys like Kevin Austin Jr., Braden Lenzy, and Lorenzo Styles Jr., while also working in Michael Mayer.

This Irish offense is firing on all cylinders, and game planning against them is not as easy as it may have been earlier in the year.

Notre Dame defense on another level

On defense, the Irish are playing out of their minds right now, and have shut out the Cardinal through the first two frames. They are playing fast, getting into the backfield, and have already caused a turnover.

In the half, Stanford mustered only 47 yards, averaging two yards per play. Total domination.
