Notre Dame football: Potential replacements for Brian Kelly

Jeff Hafley

Boston College Head Coach

Jeff Hafley may have just gotten a five-year extension from Boston College, but that doesn’t mean that he’s off the market for Notre Dame, or too expensive. He should still be a viable candidate to look into.

Hafley was the last good defensive coordinator at Ohio State before their defense collapsed. His leaving for Boston College is directly correlated to that happening to the Buckeyes. He is one of the better young defensive minds in the game after all. At Boston College, he has made the Eagles much more competitive following the Steve Addazio era.

That means that Jeff Hafley has a couple of things going for him that Notre Dame absolutely should be looking for in a head coach. He has ties to the Midwest, he’s a good recruiter, and he has experience at the only other Catholic school at the FBS level, giving him insight into the job.

There is a lot of talk and momentum surrounding Hafley going forward, and he certainly makes sense for Notre Dame going forward.
