Notre Dame football head coach Brian Kelly has accomplished many things with the Irish, but LSU is making a hard push to bring him to the Bayou.

It is being reported that LSU is making an “aggressive push” to hire Notre Dame football head coach Brian Kelly. This comes as several previously reported top candidates for the prestigious job have either taken jobs elsewhere or extended their contracts with their current job.

Brian Kelly is currently the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, but he has never won a New Year’s Six Bowl, College Football Playoff Game, or a National Championship. It was previously rumored that USC would have an interest in Kelly. The idea behind Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame is that due to certain restrictions around Notre Dame football, it is not possible to win more than he has in South Bend.

So, if he wants to win a National Championship, which he absolutely does, then he’d need to move on. The last three head coaches at LSU have won National Championships.

Would Brian Kelly leave the Notre Dame football program?

LSU wants to hire someone without ties to Les Miles or Ed Orgeron, which makes sense given their numerous Title IX violations. Brian Kelly would fit all these qualifications, though, with the mishandling of the Prince Shembo case, it could be argued that Kelly has issues that follow him too.

It should also be noted that agents sometimes leak things like this in an attempt to earn pay raises for their clients. With the money being thrown around this coaching cycle, you can bet Kelly earns a contract of more than $10 million annually, at least. Where it comes from is yet to be decided.

This is all rumors, as of now, but it’s worth keeping track of until things have worked themselves out. If Kelly did leave for the Bayou, one prime candidate to take over for him is Marcus Freeman, who is basically a head coach in waiting right now.
