The Notre Dame football team has had a roller coaster of a week, one that should end with them being named a CFP participant this season.

One of the things that made is such a shock that Brian Kelly left for LSU was that Notre Dame football is very much alive for a trip to College Football Playoff. It was like a slap in the face that even when the Irish were playing at the top of their game, he didn’t think he could win with Notre Dame.

Not in the Playoff, at least. So, he went to LSU where it would be objectively easier.

It’s an insult, sure, but what gets lost is that Notre Dame football still has a shot to make the College Football Playoff. It’s a shot that they deserve to have going forward too. There are more than a few reasons why, and we’ll break them down here.

It should be pointed out that these are all a matter of opinion. There really is no telling what the selection committee is going to do when it’s all said and done. In fact, they’ll likely be leaving Notre Dame out of the Playoff, given where they’ve been placed so far in the process. Still, there is plenty that could create chaos and change things.
