Notre Dame football: Marcus Freeman the perfect hire for the Irish
By Sean Smith
The Notre Dame football team is reportedly hiring Marcus Freeman as their head coach, which is a perfect move for the program.
For fans of the Notre Dame football team, Monday night was a huge shock, as Brian Kelly left the program to take the head coaching job at LSU. Throughout Tuesday, we saw reports of his four-minute speech to the team, as well as a press conference from Jack Swarbrick, stating they would be searching for their next head coach, and there would be no rush.
Well, after an outpouring of support for head coach Marcus Freeman, it was clear who alumni, players, and recruits wanted to lead the next era of Notre Dame football. On Wednesday, it began to be reported that Freeman would be the choice, as well as assistants like Brian Polian, Tommy Rees, Mike Elston, Lance Taylor, Mike Mickens, and of course, Matt Balis.
Notre Dame football to name Freeman head coach
If the reports are true, Freeman is going to be officially named the next head coach of the program. This is a move that everyone was hoping for, and it bodes well for the Irish, as they should keep most if not all of their current players, and recruits locked into this team.
Freeman has had so much success in his young career. He started coaching just over a decade ago as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2010 and then became the Linebackers Coach for Kent State (2011-2012) and Purdue (2013-2015). While at Purdue, he became the Co-Defensive coordinator in 2016, which propelled him as a successful Defensive Coordinator for Cincinnati (2017-2020) and Notre Dame (2021).
Some fans are skeptical that he has never been a head coach before and think he has some big shoes to fill in one of the most historic teams in college football history. However, if anyone is going to fill them at such a young age and be successful, it is without a doubt going to be Marcus Freeman.
The future is bright for Notre Dame, as with Marcus Freeman as Head Coach, they will continue to recruit at an elite level, and I believe they will not only be making the College Football Playoff consistently but winning a National Championship in the next five years.
The Irish are in great hands, and there is honestly not a better fit for the job because Marcus Freeman is the definition of a Notre Dame guy. I have never seen players, recruits, and fans rally behind a coach the way they do with Coach Freeman. Everyone wanted him, and we are close to saying: We got him!
