Notre Dame football: Reasons Irish will benefit from Brian Kelly’s departure

News this week has galvanized the Notre Dame staff, roster, and fan base.

This first reason may seem cliché, but I do not think it can be ignored. On the very same night that Brian Kelly announced his departure, there was an outpouring of support to make Marcus Freeman the next head coach from former players, current players, and recruits.

When the news of Freeman’s hire became official, there was universal praise from both the inside and outside of the program. The video of the current Notre Dame football team learning of the news is simply awesome.

The reactions from Irish fans around the country were just as positive. In a day-and-age when people cannot seem to agree on anything, there was unanimous support for a coach who has only been with the Notre Dame football program for one year.

In the words of Andy Samberg impersonating Nicolas Cage on Saturday Night Live, “That’s high praise.”

When the Irish play in their bowl game this season, I think we will see an inspired team running around in those gold helmets.
