Notre Dame football: 3 reasons Kyren Williams should be RB1 in 2022 NFL Draft
Catching abilities
There are plenty of running backs in this draft class who can get the job done on the ground, including the likes of Breece Hall from Iowa State, and Isaiah Spiller from Texas A&M. These two backs have been featured in numerous mock drafts in recent weeks, and both are likely to be terrific players at the next level.
One thing that could separate Williams from the bunch during the draft process is how good he has been as a pass-catcher for Notre Dame. Whether it was Ian Book last season, or Jack Coan in 2021, Williams has been the security blanket for both quarterbacks and proved that he can be just as dangerous in the passing game.
In his two seasons as the feature back for the Irish, Williams has racked up nearly 80 catches, proving to be a lethal weapon out of the backfield. To compare, Spiller has that man catches in three seasons as the feature back for the Aggies.
In today’s NFL, you have to be able to run the ball and be an option out of the backfield, and Williams has the skill set to be the best, all-round back in this class.
