Notre Dame football: 2022 offense to be led by 2021 true freshmen

Quarterback: Tyler Buchner

We start at the most important position in sports, where Tyler Buchner is the favorite to take over for Jack Coan as the starting quarterback for the Irish next season. We got to see a lot of the true freshman this season, as he showcased his ability to make plays with his arm, and his legs, giving flashes of what could be in 2022.

The truth is, Buchner is going to have to win the job outright in 2022, as Drew Pyne is not going anywhere, and incoming true freshman Steve Angeli is one of the better pocket passers in the 2022 recruiting class. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees is going to want to figure this out early in the spring, and based on what he did this season, Buchner should get the first reps with the starting offense.

There is a lot to like about Buchner’s game, and while he dazzled fans with some incredible runs this season, he did show at times that he can let it rip when need be. He also developed the confidence of not only his coaches, but the wide receivers on this roster, giving him a leg up on the competition heading into next season.
