Notre Dame football: Tyler Buchner to be pushed for 2022 starting QB job
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football team has a potential star in quarterback Tyler Buchner, but he will be pushed for the starting job in 2022.
Heading into the 2021 college football season, the Notre Dame football team was looking for someone to replace Ian Book as the starting quarterback for the Irish. During his time in South Bend, Book became the all-time winningest quarterback in program history, leaving some very big shoes to fill.
Luckily, the Irish were able to get Jack Coan to come in as a graduate transfer, and he had an excellent first and only season with the program. Coan had his ups and downs early on, but towards their run to a possible College Football Playoff berth, he became one of the more effective signal-callers in the country.
Now, the Irish turn their attention to who will replace Jack Coan at the position in 2022, and there are a bunch of quarterbacks looking to earn that spot. In fact, this is going to be one of the more watch position battles next offseason, as 2021 true freshman Tyler Buchner looks to build on a solid 2021 campaign.
He should be the QB1 heading into spring, but he is going to have a battle on his hands.
