Notre Dame football: Tyler Buchner to be pushed for starting QB job in 2022

Who remains from the 2021 roster?

Going into next season, Buchner is not the only signal-caller coming back, as the Irish have some solid talent on the depth chart. Buchner is likely to get the first crack at starting, but Drew Pyne was the backup to Book back in 2020 and was a top prospect that has a very high ceiling in terms of his skill set.

While he is a prime candidate to possibly transfer out of South Bend if he does not win the starting job again this spring, Also on the roster is Ron Powlus Jr., a legacy quarterback whose father was an elite player for the Irish that was a two-time captain, threw over 50 touchdowns and would go on to spend a few seasons in the NFL.

He is not likely to challenge for a starting job in 2022 or throughout his collegiate career but is a solid player to have in terms of depth. These are the three signal-callers that will return in 2022, and the battle between Pyne and Buchner should be a fun one to watch, as both give the Irish a great chance to continue their winning ways next season.
