The Notre Dame basketball team won their fifth game in a row on Saturday, and here are some key takeaways from the overtime victory.

It may have taken overtime, but the Notre Dame football team was able to take care of business on Saturday against Georgia Tech, running their win streak to five games. Across that time, the Irish have been putting together resume-building victories, including their win over the North Carolina Tar Heels this past Wednesday.

As they continue to work through their ACC schedule, Mike Brey and his team are starting to look like a potential NCAA Tournament contender. They are a veteran-laded squad led by a true freshman, which is the kind of mix you need to make a deep run not only in your conference tournament but also when it comes time for the Big Dance.

Here, we take a look at some key takeaways from the victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Notre Dame basketball Key Takeaways

  • Atkinson was money off the bench
  • Blake Wesley continues to grow
  • Irish have something special going

The Irish decided to have Paul Atkinson come off the bench in this one, and it was a move that certainly worked. Atkinson was outstanding against Georgia Tech, going 8-of-9 from the field, while also grabbing seven rebounds, and notching two blocks.

True freshman Blake Wesley led the way with 22 points, as he continues to establish himself as one of the best players in the conference in his first season on campus. Overall, Wesley shot the ball 21 times, but if he is going to be the kind of player the Irish need him to be down the stretch, he needs to continue to have this kind of aggressive mindset on the offensive side of the ball.

Notre Dame basketball has something special going right now, and are proving that they can win in the clutch moments of games. Their next matchup is an ACC tilt against the Clemson Tigers at home inside Purcell Pavilion, a location they have yet to feel defeat in this season.
