The 2022 Notre Dame Football recruiting class finished in the top-10 but will they continue to compete during the NIL era?

The 2022 Notre Dame football recruiting class currently sits at 7th according to 247Sports. Anyone who watched Marcus Freeman’s introductory press conference knows that recruiting will be one of his priorities. Making headway further into the top-5 might be difficult with teams bending the current recruiting rules.

The purpose of allowing student-athletes to profit off their name, image, and likeness (NIL) was to prevent the university’s athletic department from making money off a player without compensating them. The best example was the No. 14 or No. 23 uniforms that were sold in the Hammes Bookstore.

If you purchased those jerseys in 2021, there was no mistaking whose jersey you were buying – Kyle Hamilton or Kyren Williams (depending on your preference). Normally, those student-athletes could not benefit from those types of sales but, with NIL, they would.
