With the 2021 Notre Dame football season now firmly in the rearview mirror, it’s time to turn our heads forward and take a look at the 2022 season.

There are going to be heavy expectations placed on Notre Dame football first-year head coach Marcus Freeman. He seems up to them, as he’s assembling an excellent staff and outperforming the previous staff in terms of recruiting already. He has to prove that those on-field wins can come with him too, though.

Freeman also has the massive task of deciding the next Notre Dame football quarterback. Most people assume this will be Tyler Buchner, who is a young and highly touted dual-threat. Nothing is set in stone yet, though. Buchner still needs to win that job and keep it. The staff, for their part, needs to make sure that the team is ready and developed at as high a rate as is possible.

On top of all that, the schedule in 2022 is full of landmines. You can circle Ohio State and Clemson now. That’s before you consider the type of jump a team like USC is ready to make. So, in a year of incredibly high expectations, getting back to 10 wins is going to be very difficult to manage.

So, here is a way too early look at the 2022 season for the Notre Dame football team:
