A way-too-early look at the 2022 Notre Dame football schedule
A way-too-early look at the 2022 Notre Dame football schedule
Week 8: UNLV
UNLV is going to play their first game ever against Notre Dame in late October. This, in all honesty, should be a relatively easy win for Notre Dame. UNLV has only had two winning seasons since 2000, the most recent of which was in 2013. So, there is no reason they should come into South Bend and be competitive.
Week 9: At Syracuse
Syracuse has had trouble figuring things out under Dino Babers. He’s an offensive coach, but finding the pieces to be successful consistently has been a struggle for the Orange. That’s the life of an ACC team with very few natural advantages at their disposal. Even with that, Syracuse does think they’ve found a good quarterback of the future in Garrett Shrader.
This game is going to be played in the Carrier Dome, which is notorious for being an overheated dome to play in. This makes it trickier to go in there and get a win than a lot of people might think. Besides, this is by definition a trap game with Clemson on deck next week.
Week 10: Clemson
Notre Dame will be hosting Clemson on the first weekend of November. The last time these two met in South Bend the Irish pulled off an upset and won the game in overtime. That was one of the better nights of the Brian Kelly era. It would be followed up with a reminder of the differences between the two programs at the time when Clemson beat Notre Dame badly in the ACC Championship Game that season.
Now, Clemson seems to have taken a step backward. Dabo Swinney is struggling with changes like the transfer portal and NIL, while he just lost both of his coordinators to new head coaching jobs. Continuity on the coaching staff has been a huge part of Clemson’s success in recent years. They’ll need to overcome those changes and fix what was an awful offense in 2021.
Depending on how Notre Dame moves into its next era, this could be a blowout or a tight game. For now, it’s too far in the future with too little information to predict properly.
