A way-too-early look at the 2022 Notre Dame football schedule

Week 11: Navy (in Baltimore)

This is Navy’s year to host the Notre Dame-Navy game, which means it is going to be played at a neutral site. This year, it will be played at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium. The logic behind playing those games at a neutral site is two-fold. First, Navy Marine-Corps Memorial Stadium is too small to host all the fans who will want to see the game. It also, importantly, helps both schools to recruit around the entire country.

As for the game itself, Navy needs to find a quarterback to be a true threat again. Without that, they struggle to get out of the mud on offense. There will always be a massive talent gap too, which means the Irish should always dominate this series.

Week 12: Boston College

Senior Day will see Notre Dame play host to one of their underappreciated rivals, Boston College. The Eagles, for their part, we’re hoping to take a step forward in 2021, but that never came. Phil Jurkovec’s injury had something to do with that, though. He’s back, and everyone clearly remembers that he was recently the quarterback in waiting at Notre Dame.

If Boston College takes that step forward they’ve been looking for soon, this could be a good and exciting matchup.

Week 13: At USC

For years now, USC has been down. It’s hurt the PAC-12 and likely hurt the quality of college football as a whole. That’s probably over now, though, as the Trojans have made one of the game’s great offensive minds, Lincoln Riley their new head coach. Natural talent hasn’t been USC’s issue, and now they’re positioned to explode moving forward.

The 2022 meeting is going to be in Los Angeles, and it could be back to being one of the game’s premier rivalries. We’ll just have to see how the two handle their new staff and the changes that need to be made first.
