The Notre Dame football team should be stout on the defensive side of the ball in 2022, and here are three players who could breakout in 2022.

During the 2021 college football season, the Notre Dame football team got outstanding play from their defense down the stretch. In fact, there was a three-game stretch where they did not even allow a touchdown, a big reason why the Irish nearly inched their way into the College Football Playoff.

In 2022, the defense is once again going to be one of the best in the country, thanks to numerous stars returning, and Marcus Freeman taking over as head coach. There is also some elite defensive talent coming in via the 2022 recruiting class, so all signs point to the Irish being very tough to score on this upcoming season.

Right out of the gate, the Irish will be tested, as they take on C.J. Stroud and the Ohio State Buckeyes on the road. That will give a good indication of where this team will be headed this season, but for them to get to a College Football Playoff, they must have some guys put together breakout seasons on that side of the ball.

Here, we look at three of them.
