The Notre Dame football team should be one of the best in the country next season, but they are not going to be title contenders based on a recent list.

For the 2022 Notre Dame football team, a lot has to go right for them to make it to the College Football Playoff. The quarterback situation is a bit cloudy heading into spring practice, and they have to replace an all-time great at running back in Kyren Williams on the offensive side of the ball.

On defense, the Irish have to replace one of the top-3 players in this year’s 2022 NFL Draft, as Kyle Hamilton is likely to be an early selection this April. They did get Brandon Joseph via the transfer portal, which will be huge, and we will get to see what this team is made of early on, as they travel to play the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 1.

Despite the question marks, the truth remains that the Irish should be a contender for the College Football Playoff once again this season, and just may have enough talent to challenge for a title. However, according to 247Sports.com, that is not likely to be the case.

Notre Dame football snubbed from top title contender list

In a recent post by Nick Kosko from 247Sports, he laid out the top-10 contenders for a national title this upcoming season. Of course, the usual suspects were in there, as he had Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia on his list, but a few head-scratchers made the top-10 over the Fighting Irish.

Teams like Utah, Wake Forest, and even USC, who have not beaten Notre Dame in forever were placed within the top-10 over Marcus Freeman’s squad. While those teams are likely to be solid next season, the Irish have a lot more in terms of talent, even after losing some key players to graduation and the draft this offseason.

Of course, these rankings do not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it is interesting to see how the Irish are being viewed early on. Freeman got a bunch of talent to forgo the NFL Draft and come back in 2022, and I believe they are going to be one of the last teams standing when all is said and done.
