Notre Dame football: Young offensive weapons to watch in 2022

Tyler Buchner, Quarterback

This past season, Jack Coan came to South Bend as a graduate transfer, and down the stretch, he became one of the better quarterbacks in the country. In fact, he capped off his only season with the Irish by throwing for over 500 yards and five touchdowns in the loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Coan’s backup for most of the season was true freshman Tyler Buchner, who showcased the ability to not only get the job done with his arm but also his legs. He could be a dynamic playmaker for this team in 2022 and beyond, but he is going to be pushed for the starting job this spring.

If Buchner does earn the starting job, you can expect a big season from him, as he also displayed incredible toughness in Year 1. The Irish had a playmaker that could get the job done with his arm and his legs in Ian Book for years, and Buchner could be cut from the same mold across the next few seasons.
